Emily is still resting. She has developed pneumonia in her right lung, so they have had to increase her sedation so that they can treat the pneumonia. Her doctors tell us that we need to get used to these kinds of set backs during this long, difficult recovery, but her neurosurgeon in particular seemed much more optimitistic yesterday (and I don't get the feeling they are naturally optimistic people). I'm holding on to that optimism right now.
Everyone has been absolutely wonderful. We want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, food, cards and flowers. I also want to thank everyone that is working so hard to help us make this less difficult for Emily's sister. We always knew how special Emily is - it's almost overwhelming to see how many others know it too.
Good Shepherd Catholic School (where Emily went to elementary and middle school) is planning a prayer service for her next Tuesday, April 10, at 2:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Good Shepherd Catholic Church is located at 7th Avenue and Elizabeth Street, Denver.

Hello!
I'm a classmate of Emily's in creative writing. I just wanted to let you know we're all pulling for her and we're glad to hear that the doctors are optimistic. My sister is a 6th grader at Good Sheperd (and it now occurs to me may know your other daughter), and I'll definitely try to be at the prayer service next week. Your family is in my thoughts and if there's anything at all I can do to help you, I'd be more than willing.

Just got the news late yesterday from a WESTCAS email. (Talk about hearing it from the kids in the street, it was an email from DC forwarding an email for Kelly Collins in NM.) If you had any doubt how important you all are to your friends and colleagues, this unfortunate event will put those doubts to rest forever. We are all pulling for the best for all of you. (And 5:00 a.m. blog posts do not portend well for you Barb.) Take good care of yourselves. Emily needs you healthy.
Thank you for setting this up. Emily is in my prayers everyday. I miss her,I know she will pull through. She is very a strong both physically and mentally. Mark
All of you are in our thoughts and prayers over here at CML. I echo what Chris said....take care of yourselves and let us know if you need anything at all.

Chris forwarded the news--know that you are all in my thoughts. If there is anything I can do (food, dog walks, anything), please let me know.
Hi!
I used to hang out with Emily a couple years ago. I'm Lisa Spences cousin and god-daughter. I'm glad to hear the doctors are optimistic. I've been praying for Emily since I first heard about the fall. She is constantly in my thoughts and prayers and will of course continue to be. if there is anything I could do I would love to help!

We are sending you all our love and prayers. If there is anything we can do, any way we can help, please do not hestitate to call. Emily is a dynamic and exceptional girl and we know she will pull through this.
Hi, I'm another creative writer... I'm so happy that the doctors are more optimistic--I can't imagine a scenario where Emily wouldn't apply sheer determination to get through. She's most definitely a constant in my and my family's thoughts.

Hey, I'm Sarah J, I'm friends with Emily at DSA. I can't make the prayer service, but I'll for sure be praying while I'm in rehearsal.
All my love - SJ
Barb: I just heard the news on this from Richard M yesterday. So sorry to hear about this, but am very encouraged to see the positive signs of late. Stay strong, and know many people are thinking about and wishing you all well, and will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Emily.
